A friend is having big grooves wore in the tapered edge on his impeller and can't figure out why. He has tried a new wear ring. Any ideas guys?

Check thrust bearing...if the bearing goes the impeller will move forward and rub on the wear ring...
If the boat is towed on gravel roads and then started out of the water even for a short while the grit can ball up in the wear ring area.
All jets should be backed into the water for at least one minute(to allow the air to bleed out of the pump)before cranking the engine
