Need some advice on where to start looking for a leak in my boat. It has a 200 opti and when I am under way I am getting water in the bilge, but only when I am running. If the motor is off it has no leak whatsoever. Obviously a pressure leak of some sort but where do I start looking?
Thanks for any tips! |

Hi , well my first thoughts are , that there is a bolt that is broken or loose or maybe not even there up near the front , where the water line is when u are running , when u park on shore it is out of the water , leave it on the trailer
back in deep and then watch , just my thought |

Check any water lines running to the exhaust, or the drain that you open to winterize and drain out the block. If its when you are moving check around where the pump bolts onto the intake, had a 240 that leaked there when you hit any speed. Bolts were loose/stripped out. |

Start your boat and look at the pump boot. The rubber that sandwiches through the hull. Either that or the seals right above it on the motor base plate . You'll see water running down off the pump box if either of these is leaking |

I have a 240 with the same problem. The higher I rev'd the engine the more it would leak. My leak came from between the intake and the pump. Almost all of the mounting bolts were stripped/sheared off (10 of the 12). I ended up take it all apart, welding the holes in, then re-drilled, re-tapped and put in keensert inserts into the aluminum. I'm just putting it all back together now and will be taking it out for a test run this weekend. I hope this will be a permanent fix. _________________ Lindsay |
