Oh ye racers of much wisdom.
Looking for some discussion and advise on what works and what doesn't.
I have a Collett system, works ok up to 1/3 throttle but above that cannot hear clearly enough. Too much engine noise. The ear speakers are those velcro stick inside your helmet, disc type units. I'm thinking that the ones that look like ear plugs are better, then there is the boom mike versus throat pick-up question. |

i have heard the throat mic doesnt work especially with intense wind noise as is found at above 50 mph. i would guess wind noise is equal to or higher than engine noise at those speeds. i have had good luck with using regular music type headphones in my helmet, i get the kind that have a big puffy foam ring that has a "skin" on it rather than the open cell type foam. this helps seal the wind noise out so you can hear the transmissions better. also these bigger units have more sound and clearer sound than most in-ear and disc types. forget noise canceling its a joke. there are also tricks to the helmet that can help reduce wind noise which in turn helps com system. a few minor mods can make a big difference. note that all my helmet com/music knowledge is from motorcycles not racing boats as i am no racer so take it all with a grain of whiskey. |

We use the Peltor intercom system with the push in ear buds. This system has worked great for us. It does seem that the ear-bud wear out. We use the 110 and I know that Dave Provost uses the 200 which is more money but more advanced. You can get an adapter so you can hard wire it to your electrical system. I hope this helps. |
