Here's a few pic's of the Grand Rapids on the Athabasca River. These class VI rapids are located approx 160 miles down stream from the town of Athabasca. There is alot of history on this stretch of river, old cabins, an old HB store, telegraph offices great fishing and very little traffic. If you launch at Poachers Landing you can expect a 260 mile return trip to the rapids and back. There are no roads, no bridges, no power lines, no fences. Just miles & miles of untouched wilderness.

The main guy narrating this video is truly a river icon around these parts. He has more knowledge and wisdom on the waters north of Athabasca than any man I know. He is also the funniest man you will meet after a few beers.... I never met Emery, but I always pictured him as a guy like this that truly loved river running and telling stories. If you ever venture down river from town or Poachers be sure to stop in and say hi to Cal. If your lucky he'll bust out his guitar and sing a song or two.
