I know this question has been asked before just can't find the post. Does anyone know of a through hull transducer and depth finder make that would work for aluminum boats? Not to keen on installing one on the back of the transom.

Thanks
Chris

tried a few without luck and then got talking with some reps from Lowrance and hummingbird on their opinions on this and both said they don't work well thru aluminum. I ended up using a lowrance in hull,(hole drilled through floor), but I went through the trim tab instead, Works good so far, 2 years and its still there.

Sonar isn't really necessary on a jet boat unless you also use the boat on lakes and deeper rivers. If you can't see / feel the bottom most of the time then you're not jet boatin'! All transducers will shoot through aluminum hulls and show basic depth, but not a lot of detail in deeper water. I tried an Alumaducer and it worked no better than the stock transducer. I mounted my Lowrance transducer to the port side steering bracket on my American Turbine SD-309. It sits higher than the planing part of the hull so it doesn't get whacked when running skinny water, which is what jet boats do. I figure on plane doesn't matter because I have a GPS map. I get a good reading in deep water when looking for fishies. It has stayed secured as is for three years of heavy use on the debris filled Connecticut River. It has survived multiple encounters with "negative depth", rocks, trees, ice sheets, etc.
