This might be a silly question, but what is the proper technique to measure the impellor to wear ring gap on a sport jet? Do you take the stator off and push the impellor to one side and then measure the gap? Or do you have to take the wear ring and impellor out and then measure the gap?

Leave the wear ring and impellor installed. I have a set of long feeler blades (10" or so) that I stick in there. The clearance should be very minimal. My new one, once installed almost looks like there is none, but if you push it to one side than you have about .025" or so.
