|

What is the fuel economy expected in a 240 sport jet running in an 18' outlaw bobcat or Alicraft? What is the performance of this engine like? What kind of difference does the high skew impeller make? I am researching this as I am looking to buy a jet boat, but have never owned one before. Thanks for any advise...

I have a 2006 240 SJ in an 18 foot harbercraft whitewater. Dry boat weight is about 1808 lbs. Here is my data for fuel consumption tested at a lake about 1000 ft above sea level. I used my GPS for speed and my smartcraft for the RPM and fuel consumption. Hope this helps.
SH
Motor RPM MPH Gallons Per hour (US) MPG (US)
3870 26.4 7.32 3.61
4000 28.5 7.93 3.60
4200 30.5 9.09 3.36
4650 37.2 13.26 2.81
5600 47 22.24 2.11
5780 49.4 23.30 2.12

I have a 2002 240 sport jet with high scew , I find if I keep it under 4800 rpm it is pretty descent, mileage goes all to "sheet" running it up over 5000.

My carbed SBC 350 in a 20' 6 degree Eagle does a little worse (3 MPG) at cruise and a little better (2.5) at WOT with two guys and full livewell and full fuel tank.

On last Saturday at the Brazue Boat Rally I did 86 miles on 100 litre's of fuel in a 16 ft 20 degree Eagle Sport 240 SJ. 2 guys in boat, plus 2 coolers, full tank of gas (35 gallon) and a 5 gallon jerry can full in boat, Average RPM was 4800. It's the yellow boat in picture. So it's pretty good if you keep your foot out of it. It has new style big screw impellor.
