|
|
Is it common for a step tech to " slip " a little out of the hole? my new boat runs a built 383 with a SS impeller. Impeller is new, next to zero tolerance yet if you hammer it out of the hole it briefly slips. My last boat with a delta and a 502 didnt do this. I have noticed that this step tech is slightly different than some newer pics ive seen. It has kinda a reverse chine off sides of the keel around the pump area. instead of a radius. Its a 02 hull. could this be holding air when sitting still? the bottom is dent free. |

What cut is the impellor? If it's a 'B' it prob will slip a bit, 'A' should hop right out of the water |

Check your pump packing too, it may let a bit of air in until positive suction pressure occurs. _________________ It was like that when I got there! |

I owned a 2001 19ft step tech for 10 years, and my 421 AMS sbc would spin out a Clement A impellor, not alot but maybe 400 to 500 rpm for 2 seconds until there was a bit of forward motion, motor made 500 lb tq @ 4300 rpm and over 400 tq by 2200 rpm. So this is normal with that year of hull. |

Its a A cut impeller, motor makes almost 480 ft lbs of torque and around 460hp at 5k rpm. What do you mean by pump packing? |

If it is a berkely pump it has two adjusters at the frt of the pump for tightning the rope pump packing on the shaft. You tighten them until it just quits leaking. If it is an AT then it uses a diferent system. _________________ Mark
