call who ever built your motor ie kodiak, marine power and ask them for the info, they are really helpfull. on the other hand 450 is a small price to pay for the reassurance of the job done right. it would sure suck when you run the boat next spring and you have some costly repairs and more down time. my 2 cents

I fish all winter in New England and must "winterize" it every after every wiinter trip. I have the same engine and pump. Drain the block by removing the threaded plugs on the lower center of each side of the engine block. Also remove the threaded pipe plugs at each end of the exhaust manifold. They face down. This is to prevent ice from cracking the block or exhaust manifolds. I would also replace the fittings with small brass ball valves so you may open them without wrenches next time. Use a piece of wire or a small screwdriver to push into each of the 6 opened holes to be sure no sand or debris is in there which may be preventing the water from truly draining. You must also add gas stabilizer if you anticipate not using the boat more than a month or two. It should be added during you final outing in time for it to blend with fuel in the carburetor before the engine is shut off. The jet pump needs no "winterizing" as it self drains. You may choose to put mothballs in the boat to keep critters out, but I don't. Certainly not $400-$600 worth of work.

I don't have the room for a heat exchanger. I just turn the valve levers and shove a wire in each. It takes a couple of minutes and gives the non-smallblock equipped bass boaters time to wow over the engine bay that took their tournament entry yet again! Very Happy
