Hi everyone! Firstly, apologies for not updating sooner on here ... having a little too much fun to sit around behind a computer and stay in touch. Oh well ... great memories! What a spectacular race here in New Zealand. Great rivers, wonderful people and awesome times had by all. While it did not prove to be unproblematic for all, the majority of boats still finished and boasted excellent times. The rivers were not as difficult as what New Zealand is typically known for, but the Wairau and Taramakau still evened the playing field for under-horsepowered boats. John's turbine boat stole the show; however, veteran racer Rob Pooley was keeping him honest and provided a great show the first two days, until attrition took over. Garth McMaster and Roger Preston pushed Gord and John to their limits on the Taramakau, leaving John to sweat a little! In the end, despite a hitting a rock with his new boat, Roger finished a very impressive 3 second back from Garth. In a valiant effort by Gord, he posted fastest times on the last two days; however, still could not catch John's turbine.
That being said, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to John and Brent for their first place finish! What a great feat, having the first turbine boat finish a marathon and win. Also deserving of congratulations are EVERYONE else for participating, from sponsors, trailer crews, racers, support boats, and supporters.
Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU to the organizers of the race for putting on such a great event. Your hospitality has been wonderful, again, and generated many fabulous memories for all!

Our incredibly generous overall sponsors from Kaipoi ITM, Davey and Jonnie. Not to mention, a standout truck crew for the last few days of the race. Thanks for everything boys; couldn't have done it without you! |

Well said Dale.
.... also it was great to see the arrival of an FX class in NZ. Those guys put up some good numbers, and 2 FX teams finishing in the top 10.
