On the SP 2500 (Sport Jet Class), Guillermo Cortés got the best times, but was disqualified as he failed to show up at the tech inspection.

As you can see from the above results (sorry for the format, but that's what I could do), I got the 3rd overall because very few boats started and finished all legs.

In the above times there is another omission as Jose Barquin had a DNF in the last leg.

My point here is to stress the importance of RELIABILITY of an engine.

I want to take the chance for a FREE advertisement for GM:

The ZZ4 engine is GREAT. I have raced two balsas river races and one circuit race and it's still running good. The oil pressure is a steady 60 psi. The engine always starts right away. It is always (or almost) at full throttle, 5000RPM's and has never complained.

I have NEVER done anything to it, (save the oil and spark plug changes after each race) not even removed the valve covers!

After each racing leg is done, it's just take the boat out of the water and have a drink. No staying up late to fix something.

I guess it will come to a point where it will simply blow one crank, be thrown to the garbage and I will get a new one, but there are no signs of that being close.

This is NOT the same engine with the 7/16 stud, by the way.

So, instead of spending big bucks on blueprinted engines that blow up after 5 hours of use, go get a ZZ4 for $3900 and have FUN!! (OK, you won´t go fast, but you can´t have everything)

Wilson, looks like you guys had a great time. It also looks like Leo Wright would have won if he had finished all the legs, many of his times were the quickest, pretty good for a B engine! What kind of engine was he running and do you know who built it? Were there any other crate motors there other than the ZZ4's? Has anyone down there tried the GM crate 620hp/572's?

Ahhh...The "What If's...."

Well, the fastest time going up was Gil García, but Gil wrecked his boat going downstream while attempting to pass Leo Wright through a shortcut full of rocks.

Leo had a strange problem: The engine starter came loose (he had one of those fancy starters mounted on a bell housing on top of the engine) and on its way down, it pulled/tore the coil cable, thus causing the engine to die, thus causing the loss of control and the boat ending up out of the river on a gravel bank.

I'm not sure who built this engine. I would guess his copilot, Tim Harding, who knows a lot about engines did the work. Everything seems blueprinted here.

I usually don´t ask. I can't afford those engines, anyway :lol:

No one here has tried the Big Block crate engine. As fas as I know, there are only two of us here that are using crate engines on ANY class (except for the sport jets, which are pretty much standard).

You see, most people here think they know more about engines than GM or Ford. :wink:
