Depends if your oil is synthetic or conventional, what weight it is and its quality. A good conventional oil is just fine up to 240 F. An ideal temp is around 220F, just above 212F so any water/condensation will be boiled off. A good synthetic oil is good to over 300F. _________________ It's always the Navigators fault! |

I have run a zz4 at 240F, pan temp, 175-180F, return to engine after the cooler. Mobil 1.
On mineral oil I was 10 degrees cooler, both at the pan and return temp. It held at this temp rock steady, 5200rpm, 45+ minutes at a time on the longest legs. _________________ It was like that when I got there! |

Mine runs right at 220 in the pan, figured this was about minimum, water leaving the engine goes through oil cooler then overboard. Have always used Mobil One. Never had a bearing problem, now watch, since I said that I'll lose all my mains in Riggins!
Oh yeah, it's a ZZ4 with Vortec heads, 5200-5275 rpm. |
