This was posted on the Fast Boats Canada Site and I thought it may be worth posting here.
It appears to be a proposed bill to make it possible to regulate PWC use on certain waterways in Canada.
I have to agree with others on that board in that it seems to be a slippery slope so to speak. Have a look, I think it may be time to write a letter...

http://www2.parl.gc.ca/content/Senate/Bills/392/public/S-221/S-221_1/S-221_text-e.htm

I know lots of boaters hate PWC but if they start here where do they stop?

"Purpose 3. The purpose of this Act is to provide a method for a local authority to propose to the Minister that restrictions be applied respecting the use of personal watercraft on all or a portion of a navigable waterway over which Parliament has jurisdiction, in order to ensure the safe use and peaceful enjoyment of the waterway and the protection of the environment.

Confused

That is not good. It all starts with a little quite bit of legislation and it grows from there. BC will be all over this. Right now they "think" they can ban boating on several rivers over there. And it IS enforced by the RCMP on the Elk River through Fernie. They have NO right or jurisdiction to do so. Maybe Alix M can add to this, but I know of people that have been pulled off the river there.

I know are rivers restrict Pwcs (Checto, Smith) it wasn't at a state level it was local and adopted by our fish and game (State Agencies). If who ever turns your river into a wild and scenic river motors wont be allowed. At least that is how it runs down here. Don't let them do it guys, once the ball gets rolling it gets harder to stop it!

We already have this restriction in the City Of Calgary. I am not sure how it happened [I had heard something about PWC's and open headers]but it can and will happen else where if we are not careful.
The part about the cottage owners group really bothers me . Just think about the number of "cottage" owners along the Red Deer River who might also fly fish.

I did some more digging last nite. This bill has been proposed a number of times since 2001!

Here is all the details and I think this is far more scary than even I initially thought.

http://www.parl.gc.ca/LEGISINFO/index.asp?Language=E&Chamber=N&StartList=A&EndList=Z&Session=15&Type=0&Scope=I&query=5344&List=toc

Definitely worth writing a letter or making a phone call about.

Email Bob Mills (the Red Deer MP). I have before and he's always gotten back to me within hours. Good guy and he knows the situation in Alberta.
