Fellow Jetboat Enthusiasts,
The holidays always bring a lot of requests to your pocketbook. As you consider which causes you open your wallet for, please consider the March of Dimes. I'm mostly a lurker here as Leadville's sometimes navigator. You probably don't know that my wife and I had a preemie that didn't make it early this year. His nickname was "sparky" but he was named after me. The following is something my wife put together:
Dear family and friends --
I hope this holiday season finds you all well.
This has been a tough year for us in many respects,
but we're moving forward and trying to turn our grief
for Sparky into a positive experience.
Harrison has been working tons, but I have been doing
enough volunteer work for the both of us. (note from
the editor, Harrison volunteers twice a week as a youth
hockey coach)I am going through training at the NICU to
become a Parent to Parent volunteer to support other
mommies and daddies that will, unfortunately, find themselves
in a similar situation some day. I'm also on the labor and
delivery bereavement committee at the hospital where
I delivered.
I have knitted around 1000 tiny hats that have
literally been sent all around the world that fit
babies from approximately 21-25 weeks gestation. Some
babies will wear them to help maintain their body heat
in their incubators, others will only be able to wear
them for their final pictures -- but the family will
know that someone, somewhere wanted their baby to have
a handmade memory for them.
This holiday season, we are going to make a donation
to the March of Dimes to specifically benefit Sparky's
hospital -- DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand
Rapids. The bereavement programs there are top notch
and the personnel are wonderful people. If there was
ever a good and honest cause close to our hearts, this
is it, my friends.
If you would like to donate as well as part of your
holiday giving, please visit our page (link below) at
the March of Dimes and select "Michigan" as the state
where you would like to donate. If you live somewhere
else, you may, of course, send monies to any state
you'd like! Thank you for keeping us in your hearts
this year and this holiday season.
The March of Dimes is about all babies...those born
healthy and those that need our help to survive. One
out of eight babies is born prematurely in the United
States, but there is something you can do to help.
Visit www.marchofdimes.com/everybaby. Your donations
will help fund your local NICUs. With your help and
support, we can make sure every baby's story is a
happy one. Every baby has a story, here is ours:

Love,
Jules and Harrison
And Miles the cat
And our 4 little angels in heaven, who inspire us more
than we know
p.s. Please forward this to anyone that you think
might be interested.

Now that you mention it, and I have had time to think about it, you are right, it's my fault.
Clearly I directed you to the inside of the corner through Mark's wake. Again, I also directed you to follow him closely and failed to warn you that the banks were still 4-6 higher than the rain swollen river.
