|
|
After 5 years not running this race, last weekend we returned to the Usumacinta river. Here are some pictures taken by a local newspaper. I will be posting more as I get them from our photographers.
By the way, 1st. place Overall in this race was a Sport Jet driven by Azlan Levy and Feliciano García.

This river is part of the border between Mexico and Guatemala.
You might find TENOSIQUE on Google Earth. This section is some 20 miles upstream from Tenosique.
There are no high resolution pictures of this section in Google Earth.
The rapids section is about 40 miles, from the first to the last. There are about 6 class III rapids and about 12 class II.
No roads to get to the river in the whole 90 mile run. It's in the jungle, with monkeys on the trees.

Some more pictures:
I don't want to seem egocentric by posting mostly pictures of my boat, but I haven't got the good pictures of other racers. Will try to post more.

The MSD module Busted after the third rapid going upstream. We were towed downstream by a rescue boat, and this how we finally arrived to the start line....
Always make sure your battery terminals are tight before going on a bumpy ride....

Those rocks look deadly if you hit them after going off a rapid or something.
