Correct, the engines being used were slatted for Amtrak High Speed Trains. Turbomeca Modified their TURMO engines they already had from Helicopter applications to fit Amtrak's requirements. They are of somewhat diffrent design then the T-58 being used.

Dale, from your specs or dyno sheets, what is the minimum N1 idle rpm, and loaded or unloaded N2 at that speed (if you've run it yet), and what is the max continuous N2 rpm and gearbox ratio?

Gas Generator min idle 18 500 rpm + or - 500 rpm max speed is 32 500rpm. Loaded or unloaded N2 speed is dependant on load from the pump so we will see what that is when we fire these things up. Free Turbine Max 22 500 rpm 1 / 3.59377 ratio , 6180 rpm on PTO

Finally out of the bag! Are those pics above of Dales or yours? Anxious to see some of your build photos too, Felix. You said the III-R2 is quite similar to the R7... so you should basically be able to use the same pump setups, and save on testing time? Nice. Does that still require a custom clockwise stator/impeller? Mine does too.
The big T55 idles at 8k rpm N1 (@ 54 gph!) with ~100 HP @ N2. It's geared 2:1, so absolute max redline is 10k rpm at final drives, though it's pushing a completely different type of impeller/pump system. Once I get deeper into the flow sims, the ratio could change, but I doubt it. I calculated roughly 50% nominal HP at 150 mph, so... plenty of 'legroom'.
Gearbox design validated at around 6,000 HP (estimated using complex duty cycle factors @ various shock loads) plus a generous service-life factor, so hopefully the investment will pay off for taking the uber-proprietary path. Of note, I was able to enclose two Wilwood 120-7726 1/2" calipers @ 10" within the gearbox housing on the primary shaft input (cold side, gearbox is close-coupled to turbine), rather than on the high-torque output. I explored electromagnetics, hysteresis, etc, but hydraulics and off-the shelf parts was the best choice for torque control.
Overall the boat design is really looking good, but taking up all my spare time. Glad to see yours is still on schedule too! I did keep it mum, see?!

Thanks for answering that for me Felix. I’ve been away for a couple of days.
One of the Turmo's we bough has a 6700RPM max output speed; we are hoping that we can just bring the other ones up to that. We have built some custom impellers and bowls to turn clockwise and have a new impeller in the works also. Duncan and Dean have been working on some very cool stuff in NZ but we're still being held back by a governor that starts taking over at 5800RPM. they have just had the boat painted and have there new bowls cast, so the should be back in the water in the next week or 2. Hopfully they'll update us on there web site.

Know this is kinda rude but after all said and done, turbine, gearbox, hull, etc, what is one of these boats worth?

The Complete rigged Hull (-engine) is pretty much all the same. The Surplus turbines are Still cheaper than a $30-$40,000 Cucstom Race Engine. Its the reliability that will really shine.
