It's been kinda slow here for a bit. The after the Worlds hangover.
Anyways, what are you bush men using for bear protection when you are running around in the mountains & foothills on quads / bikes. We had a few bear scares on rather skinny trails in the last few weeks. I was thinking about getting my FAC and getting a defender shotgun. But most everyone has another idea.
A token shot Rolling Eyes of a bear from the boat up the Kootney.

I bought me a defender last year for remote camping, and a box of slugs. The store had a little soft case for a kid's gun, and it fit's right in there great.Haven't used it yet and hopefully never have too.......

the defender is one of the best things just make sure you pack it somewhere you can get it out quick , but the best thing is just make sure you can out run at least one person in your group before you head out

Yup, I got me a defender. The first shell to go in the barrel is buckshot. If the bear doesn't go away with some buckshot in his arse then he gets slugs. Never had to use it yet. Hope to never have to.

Probably the best thing on the hiking trails is bear bang. Pen like device you hold in your hand and launch what is basically a loud fire cracker(sounds like a shot gun). I carry the bear bang and bear spray in my tackle box.

When I'm remote camping up North I carry a pump action shotgun (Fabarm). Its as about as small as you can buy legally and easy to carry on a sling. I load the tube with slugs and one bear bang shot so you can fire a warning shot first if theres time. If theres no time for the warning shot, two quick pumps and I have a slug in the chamber ready to go.

You can also buy flares that can be launched from the shotgun. Handy for any emergency, on or off the water.

A .22 caliber pistol is light and easy to carry. You never have to worry if it will kill the bear, you just shoot who ever you are with in the foot

Mossberg 500 Persuader (Mariner is best). Pistol Grip forearm, folding stock, sling. Fits from shoulder to small of back. Comes around fast. 3" Mag. 00 Buck in the chamber and next up. Rest are slugs. No recoil when on adrenaline. Sore wrists later though.....

click on model #'s for picture. Poke around site for more info.

Looks like them thar boys would eat it after shooting it too! I heard of a cool trick once, wrap bacon around a can o' bug spray and leave it hanging around for yogi to chew on, sends them running with muskol breath!
