James - You wouldn't want to have any loose pieces of clothing any where near the engine at full throttle with that sort of suction. Shocked Shocked What would happen if you got roostered behind another boat, can you put a deflector on the intake to shield it from something like that?

roosted? won't a boat have to be in front of me for that to happen?
Confused

Laughing Laughing

Im told a garden hose could be fired into the engine at WOT as long as the stream was not too direct. The engine can handle that much moisture without issue. Look at the layout drawings again and picture a firewall of sorts between exhaust duct and seats. not really any room for spray to enter the engine bay in any significant quantity. I don't think I will deck over the entire back of the boat, only about 3' forward leaving lots of room for air to enter under that deck to supply the turbine
Its all still theory till the hull is built.

Cheers

The first cut!

They used to throw walnut shells into the intake on the helicopter I worked on to "clean things out".

the turbine will burn almost anything. In fact you can pretty much mix as you wish it will just not burn pure gasoline as it burns too hot. How about completing your next race using a cheap fuel mix of stove oil and diesel or kerosene Shocked
The fuel governer will automatically adjust for the fuel there is no change to engine operation only in some cases startup procedure.
I'd grab one of those little Allisons in heartbeat if I didn't have too many projects on the go now!

Cheers

Xero... you are doing an awesome job of fielding the turbine questions my friend.. you have listened well my young apprentice... (In my best evil emperor voice...) Soon we will have them all converted to the power of the Turbine..... JOIN ME NOW AND WE WILL RULE THE RIVER AS... oh never mind...

About the comment above though... you actually CAN run 100% gas in them. But only for a limited ammount of time. Generally you are allowed straight gas for 10% of the overhaul life of the engine... (so 30 hours out of 3000) it is not great... you get deposits... it burns hot and you need to watch your throttle/egt as a result... but it can be done. (This is usually reserved for emergencies when no other fuel is available.)

Some video of the BWB is now at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShO4K6ySfzg

There will be a better version of it complete with the proper turbine sounds later next week.

Cheers,

Howie

Hey Cavefish... I once had an Engineer spray Jet A down the intake while motoring the engine over as an alternate to Compressor Wash Fluid once... some very tense moments during that one... I have heard of using the Walnut shell method, though I have never had the chance to use them.
A company I did some work for just before Christmas had a guy spraying Corrosion Preventative Compound (ACF 50) down the intake with a garden sprayer... while motoring the engine... and the brass tip came off the wand... can you say oop$.... (The engine came back from overhaul last week and it was just over $200K)

And yes Xero... It is Kawasaki that builds the T-53 these days tho it is the -17 versions mostly. (1800hp) and no.... I am not your father... Rolling Eyes
I ain't that ugly.... Laughing
