Well...sold my centre console 16ft 200SJ. CC & SJ just not for me.

So...I am looking to do a winter build of a V8 18-19ft with 78" bottom Lynx type hull/UHMW. Going to keep it pretty bare bones on interior. Boat needs to haul a decent load for its size. Top speed not an issue for me.

Pump: leaning towards HJ212 but not fixated.

Engine: totally open. 6.0? ZZ383? LS3? MPFI or carb. Lighter and good value most important. Not interested in high hp/high rpm V8's

Looking for engine/pump combo suggestions and any other valuable input.

Thxs

I have a 320 Hp Kodiak, EFI with a 212 pump and I love it, also get less than five gallons an hour of fuel burn in a 20 foot Bratt. I would buy the same running gear again for sure.

I have a ZZ 502 just took it out had 584 hrs on it, lightning headers roller rockers, complete, assume a bearing turned on the crank. I think i want to sell it as is to someone who wants or has the know how to rebuild it. Its carbed, ran great Asking $ 3000

Checked out the hp ratings of 212 impellers...a 3.4T might be a nice match with the zz502 based on dyno charts. 3.4T impeller would provide a good load capacity and ability to stay on plane at lower rpm.

Just a rebuild...eh...TBS in Edm recommended?

Took the time to do a search of the outlaw forums today...seems like zz383 is my best option. Lightweight, good hp/tq curve, reasonable cost, decent fuel efficiency.

My question is...why would the boat build price sheets I have received list the carb'd zz383 option as more expensive than the marinized 350MPFI

The ZZ383 is a custom build on a GM performance engine

The 350 efi is GM production marine engine

I had a ZZ383, that I purchased brand new in another boat a couple of years ago, it was a pile of DooDoo. The right side of the motor didn't have one single bolt that was tight. The first time in the water it didn't run for ten minutes! Gave me nothing but head aches all summer I have had three of the Kodiak's with the EFI now and I swear by them, not one issue and good on fuel, start and run cold or hot.

That's my opinion for what it is worth. Laughing

Opinions based on real life experience are definitely valued. Thx.

Wonder how many others out there had such a bad experience with the zz383?

OK...but $4500 more? I have a quote of $8700 for a turn key marinized zz383 ready to couple to a 212. By subtraction, that puts a marinized 350 MPFI at a price of $4200...seems low...no? Or is my quote too good to be true?

Considering a ZZ383 crate base is 5500 to 6000 dollars

No intake or marine equipment

8700.00 is not realistic for a zz383 package

Also note that GM does NOT warrantee the ZZ motor for marine use

The ZZ motors are best used in sport boats with turbine pumps that can get up to the higher rev range

The 350 efi marine packages are warranteed, reliable, have knock sensors and work well with the 212 pump
