everybody has heard of an 455 or an 454 jetboat but what are some weird and cool engines that have been in a boat?
i have a buddy who has an extra maserati bi turbo 200hp and i have a buick 215 200hp marine in the basement, both need hulls?

A Buick 215c.i. / 200hp?, is that a 6cyl.?, which year cars did it come in?
If you go over to nzjetboating there are some odd / exotic motors in alot of those boats, such as 302 Z28s, Lexus V8s, 750cc Kawasakis, etc...

The Kiwis had a a C boat with a V 12 Jag engine the thing sank and was recovered out of the deep blue and is in resto.They also have a Video of the Twin V6 single jet neat sounding.

Nothing makes u feel like a toughguy more than fighter helmets and an afterburner. The day we crusied out to Lake Ont was gorgeous and there were about 500 people walking around the park and pier. Can't imagine what non-boaters were thinking that day lol

Mr. Nyes boat takes the award, would like to see what the power package would do in a full tunnel! That setup is also LEGAL to race in Unlimited class. I had heard a Mexican team came to Gold Beach once with a turbine powered race boat, I don't know if it is one of those urban jetboat racing myths or not.
The 215 Olds/Buick is an aluminum block, aluminum head v-8. They had steel sleaved cylinders and came in the smaller early sixties cars (Skylark??). There was a four barrel version. A derivative of this motor also powered Land Rovers for a while, maybe still does? They use them in New Zealand along with Subaru, Lexus and lots of other kinds of motors. Real innovators and make do guys those Kiwis are. I doubt there are any Maserati powered jetboats anywhere though.

it wouldn't be the first time I suggested to Mark he let me borrow his engine and setup Jesse! lol
Interesting fact for those who haven't read about that boat. His pump rotates in reverse since the turbine gearbox output shaft spun the wrong way. One custom bowl and impeller later and he was all set.
Super nice guy and has show alot of interest in my river runnings. He'd seen my boat when I was building it up online and when our club passed his cottage in the summer he chase me down on his jetski. Pretty funny actually since he was on vacation and I had no clue at first who this mohawk sporting freak on the jetski was lol He gets a little funky when on vacation I guess(remember this guy runs a large business and has 3 kids lol)
Im not sure how the GT would like the shaking and rattling of running rapids but there is no way to argue with the power to weight. 1400 HP and ~300 lbs :O which will run ALL day at full throttle no problem

currently have a 9ft alloy with 140hp omc 2 stroke, and a 16ft alloy with super charged lexus V8 driving a 212. New project is a Holden HSV LS2 6.0 (vette C06) driving new scott 8" 2 stage.
have seen in NZ and australia many different engines fitted as common practice such as:
Nissan Sr20 turbo and non turbo
Subaru 3.3l 6
Subaru 2.0l, 2,2l and 2.5 liter including various WRX turbos
Nissan VG30 and turbo variant
Buick V6 and turbo variant
LQ9, LS1, LQ4
Ford Australia 3.9 and 4.0 straight six
Hemi Striaght six Aussie engine
P76 4.4l leyland all alloy V8 Aussie engine
Rover 3.5, 3.9 V8's
the list is almost endless
the twin buick V6 mentioned actually drove two jet units (AT's) simaesed together (bowls welded side by side) and was belt driven to deal with the engine offset...

I've had a 3.3 Subaru
Currently have a 3.8 Mustang V6 (which is for sale as I have ordered a 5.3 LS1 - 12ft boat)

2jokejet - I'm curious about which one of those Japanese engines seems to be the toughest. I would think the WRX motor would be awesome with it's low center of gravity and massive power potential, I'm just not sure about parts to adapt it to marine?

Kiwis are great for making things work as far as the WRX somebodys already been there

I think Fritz is really keen on the V8 Lexus for the C Class Marathon
Its a shame with Navastar in my back yard here in Melrose Park
A 450hp Power Stroke would be way cool Navastar has no interest in a high output Diesel

the sr20 and VG30 seem to be very popular and work very well. drove a sr20 turbo and hamilton 752 the other week, went very well, good punch.
all mounts and exhausts for these are fabricated from alloy, lexus marine parts are off the shelf in aus and nz.
