Howdy gents
So finally decided to give up on OB jets and bought a 20' Wooldridge Sport with a 350 kodiak, carb, 212 pump.
Edelbrock 600 CFM carb, 2.4 Turbo impeller, I am at 2200' elevation.
KEM figures I should be spinning at ~4100 or so at WOT. I'm getting 3500 WOT.
Engine seems to be running just great. 180 hours on entire unit, impeller and pump is immaculate. Starts great, jumps on step at 2600 and cruises happily at 2900.
Any ideas on whats up?

Have you personally checked that its a 2.4?
Throttle cable adjustment? Is it pulling the throttle plates to FULL WOT? Even a slight adjustment can make a huge difference
Whats total timing set at?
Is the dash tach reading proper rpm?
Good fuel supply? Is the filter new?

Just some simple quick checks that are sometimes easliy ovelooked. You can see the stamp on the impeller through the intake grate from under the boat if its in the right position. Good luck!

Thanks for all the ideas, those are exactly what I am looking for.
I pulled the pump and verified it is a turbo 2.4.
Compression is good on all cylinders. I'll check all of those items you mentioned..
Cheers
Paul

Kem 350- c/w HJ212- 2.4 standard impeller in a Bulldog, 8* deg hull

All your numbers seem to be 3-400 rpm lower than mine. I suspect tach maybe?

You should be able to rent a phototach for $5 and verify your tach.

Timing was way off. 4 degrees BTDC
Advanced to 18 degrees, and like a new boat.
Anyone know what the recommended advance is for this engine?

I would check with KEM for their spec but I know most guys with carbed SBC's run around 28-30 deg total timing at full mechanical advance(usually around 3000rpm) to keep it safe for 87 octane. Idle will likely be around 8 deg but don't quote me on that. Go off your total timing, not your base timing. I'm sure someone on here has or had the same engine and can tell you what they run. Cheers!
