Already planning our Tuchodi trip for July. Looks like I will need to pack an extra 100 gallons of fuel. Curious what everyone out there has been using to pack their extra fuel, other than 5 gallon jerry cans. Thinking they have to be minimum 20 gallons each?

If there is a hobby brew in your area you can buy 15gal white plastic barrels they work great for packing extra fuel. I wouldn't recommend them for a fuel reserve in the bush the bears will destroy them in a hurry. You will need 15gal steel barrels for that.

Jordan at VP fuel in Calgary has the 15 gal steel drums:Bernie @ Outlaw could order you some next time they bring race fuel in....as noted before ...bears like plastic fuel cans

Also todays fuel breaks down very quickly in sunlite

Thanks for the replies so far. Mostly just need it to pack in my boat for the trip, not leaving it anywhere. Just want to pack a lot of fuel in as few jugs as possible.

my personal choice would be a 45g drum, 2-15's and 5-5G cans. Bring a small electric fuel pump and fill the boat from the 45 when you get where your going and leave at camp till ride home...take the 5's on the day trips and fill them up as needed from the rest of the 45 or the 15's...thats what we try to do.

We usually cache fuel as we go up to lighten the load ,,,,,also the river gets smaller as you travel upstream.

And if you do run aground they are not too bad to chuck out of the boat

The second picture is of a fuel can a bear took a liking to....there was a dozen of these at the mouth of the Gatho

Great Pic Alex. I found a place I can pick up 15 gallon, round jugs with a bung and a handle. They are normally used for chemicals. Going to grab 6 of those, that should hopefully be enough.

I have several 120L Black Plastic drums, and use them to stash fuel close to where I camp. I usually start running fuel up there in July, NEVER had a bear chew them up yet. Drums had Turbine Cleaner in them before I aquired them.
