Just a quik question guys. How would a guy with no race expirience get into racing as a newbie? How do you go about getting into this sport?

Seeing as I am looking into the same thing, this is what I have told.
Best way to start is either get a 16SJ and add required safety gear and go racing or try to find a used(or new) 19'step tech, find A mechanic buddy to get you a deal on a zz4, marinize it, again add all required safety gear...shut-off switch, roll bars, 5pt harness just check the list in the racing section, THEN GO RACING!

That's right Vince. You can get into either boat for $20k-30k. Before I started racing, I looked at both the 19 sport and the 16sj and chose the 19 after I rode in both. Both boats are a great way to get started and are both quite an economical way to get into a fantastic sport. Get a ride in both, than decide, either way you'll have a blast! FYI - the 16sj top out at around 65 mph, the 19 sport 75-80 mph.

Or in my case and ARs we have them shipped in and work on developing ower own class I have both Sprint and Marathon one of them will catch in this area.

Watched Adams (first race) spin out, never lift and land headed the right
direction. In true Sprintcar form, I might add !
Watched Greg H. land sideways and put a big pressure dent in his boat.
And have the best looking launch crew of the Race Day

bare hull in Medford, Or.

A full Winter making parts and doing set-up

Was it worth it ? ABSOLUTELY !
A zz4 is just not big enough though . . . . . . . .

I bought a 15' sprint hull just to screw around with on the lake. I ended up on the Yuba going about 5 MPH, looking at 2' deep water and telling my soon to be navigator that this was way too shallow. Saw some guys rip through some 3" water and figured we could too. I went to a race and actually saw what an aluminum boat was meant for. I tried my first race in SBFX class later that year on the Yuba. It was experimental because I wasn't exactly class legal but they let me run anyway. Since then I smoked my motor at the US worlds in '04....never even crossed the start line, oh well that's racing. Everybody I ran into was just happy to have another boat out there, they helped me in every way they could and got me on the river. There were guys whose paint jobs cost more than my entire boat out there helping me get my jetting dialed in. Get what ever you can and go race, you'll love it. SBFX is a good class for getting experience. SJ is good especially if you don't want to turn any wrenches and get a lot of driving time. A SJ boat is also nice because you can do the adventure thing between races. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably start with a SJ, but I love FX even though my hull will never be competitive. Now I'm just saving my pennies so hopefully I can buy a ZZ4 before the next season and make a couple of races. Also, for humor, make sure you are late to your first driver's meeting and your borrowed race suit is way too small-Aluminum Squirt

No offense taken, that is funny . I am a cop and I eat donuts, lots of em. I'm also a former Airborne Ranger......so not too many people out run me. In my defense, the race suit was WAY too small. It just added to the consensus that our team name should be "Team Jackass". I now have a race suit that fits right-Aluminum Squirt

You know AR we still have Xero on the side of the sippie and there is another guy Mike was telling who lives in Indiana.Also chatted with the boys from Gator Jet Boats they have been selling alloy hulls there in Cuba Mo hell we may have a good chance at racing here in the Midwest.

Hi there Al Squirt. How's it going? Did you ever get your motor repaired or replaced?
As far as starting racing goes, FX is great fun. You still hear the V-8 and can run wide open all day long. Very little maintenance to do at night.
Go FX all the way.

Hey Bald Man. Everything is going well. I'm still sitting on the trashed motor from the Worlds. Been an expensive year with a little one and trying to build a house. I am making some progress though and with a little luck I may have a new ZZ4 sitting in the garage soon, keep your fingers crossed. I just hope there is a Trinity and a Yuba race this year, its a bit of a stretch for me to make the Oregon races.

The intelligent decision for a newbie is SJ, but I'm with the Bald Man, there's nothing like the sound of a V8, its just natural to hear the big rumble, the little SJ doesn't quite sound right. Of course a ZZ4 doesn't exactly sound right after you hear a A/B boat go by and smell the race gas-Aluminum Squirt

Well, this time I have to disagree with the Authority.

The ZZ4 might not exactly sound right after you hear a A/B boat go by and smell the race gas, but it definitely sounds right when you see a stranded A-B boat, with a $1,500 crank sneaking out of a $20,000 engine.

Having fun with the ZZ4 for $3800 sounds right to me!
