I guess the rock i hit on the Tuchodi (first trip) did a little more damage than once thought. Had a nagging leak so I finally pulled the floor boards for a look. Found a cracked weld/small dent up near the front. I have a 17' Wolfmade with UHMW.

Whats the easy temporary fix?
Whats the long term fix?

if its cracked and leaking theres not much of a "temporary" fix it will need to be rewelded and the dent will probably have to be pounded out. pics would always help tho

I actually found a aluminum putty at my local boat shop that you mix together and it sticks and hardens great. Might work and get you through till winter. You can drill and tap this shit! I'll look for the name when I get home. Everyone should have a tube in they're boat.

was it pepe or wilson...dang i cant remember but you might a2otr or is that the stuff you mentioned! they posted awhile ago about some sorta magic stuff that claims to be as strong if not stronger than a weld. its on this forum somewhere...

Acklands sells an epoxy product by Devcon called Aluminium Putty which can be machined drilled and tapped. I've used the 5 minute plastic steel at work for years (mostly on aluminium) and it works okay. They also have an under water repair putty good for most metals also made by Devcon.

Thats a good crack, but a decent temp fix is to use JB weld or the one mentioned above..or even Sikaflex works great for a year. I would pressure wash it...get a good wire wheel in there and prep it good...use some acetone as a final cleaning and then after dry put your goop of choice..

im a self taught alum welder so mabe im wrong here but ive found for any cleaning of old alum im shitty places..especially contaminated cracks is easily brought bak to new weldable condition with a hydrachloric acid solution called "coil clean" which can be purchased at a hotsy dealer. i havnt had another cleaner work as good as this

When the repair is done permanently(welded) - if needed?? I am assuming the UHMW will have to be removed in order to properly weld??

Wow it sure looks like a poor welding job right from the start. I wonder what filler wire was used as the weldments are discolored. As for the repair just have to grind just about all the way through the cracked area. Power brush clean the veed area and reweld you shouldn't have to remove the UHMW doing that small of a job.

I had a similar situation happen to my 17ft extreme. I got a guy to grind down from the top to the plastic and reweld the cracked area. No issues with removing UHMW.

With the floorboards already out, you are 1/2 the way to fixing it permenantly. Why not pound the dent out and prep the cracked area. Then simply stop by a fabshop and get them to weld it up. Done
