Will the Cutlass Bearing handle the RPM tho?, Can you machine a labrynith seal into the faces, ( 2 rings, one on the impeller and one to the bowl) to act as a buffer, kinda where those stuffer rings are located,

Pretty sure they will. there has been a few racers that have used them in the past with no issues. I know Brian Mcgreggor did.

Never been a fan of them especialy in dirty water Garrett has a possible solution wioth a much better hydraulic type seal. With respect to rpm bear in mind we are over driving the pump 6% on John Derrys 12% on Gords 6000 rpm on the power turbine = 6720 pump speed for example

Just an update for those interested,

SKF Economos engineering http://www.economos.com/en/ came up with a seal for the criteria. We made them size on size as a direct drop in seal replacement, so you'll still run two of them back to back and they need to be secured in the cavity with the snap-ring. Design should give >400psi differential from the water to the grease. Teflon w/carbon provides the strength/psi with built in lubrication for the shaft speeds.

Material: SKF Ecoflon 4 (PFTE w/25% Carbon)
Profile: RF01-F High Speed, High Pressure Rotary Seal Design
Rated PSI: 220psi
Rated RPM (1.125" Shaft): 7000rpm
Working Temp: -200C to +260C

Got some being made up, hopefully this does the trick.
