If you had your choice what would you rather have. A tunnel hull or a steptech. In this application I already have a larger family boat and am looking for something faster so that I quit driving the crap out of my family boat. I have seen a few guys having pleasure tunnels and I am wondering how they like them? Thoughts?

Tunnel boats don't make great pleasure boats. They have a way of taking the pleasure part of the that statement out!! They are not a great boat at low cruising speeds.

I just talked to a guy that has lots of seat time in race tunnels and has a pleasure tunnel. He told that he loves his and has run all kinds of water. He said that it has to be set up right or it will suck though. I know many of you comenting have lots of seat time in race tunnels as do I but I have absolutely know time in a pleasure tunnel. At any rate just more information and I appreciate all of the input so far.

Boosted, I spoke to your wife the other day and she said that's not true. You do spend quite a bit of time in the pleasure tunnel Laughing

It would somewhat depend on what kind of water you are running in as to weather a tunnel would work for you. lots of water.....marginable water, if it really is to be a family boat , then you will be carrying family things, .... wife, kids, coolers, chairs, extra clothes, axe ,grill, tarp, rope, winch, saw,etc to start.........lots of weight..... won't let that tunnel jump up on step even in deep water, hope your wife likes traveling nine oo with her little darlings in the boat, my shoulder gets sore when I go too fast, not to mention that in her humble opinion, I appear to be an orface that produces scat, and all I'm trying to do is keep on step ! so, slow down, drag bottom, stuck....who's pushing ? your wife, kids, or the friends that didn't call you to go because they are tired of always pushing you..........they call it a family boat for a reason, if you want your family to go along, and enjoy it,then I would think stay away from the tunnel, buy something comfortable that is built to carry some weight and still go in some marginable water. if your family is your brother, go for it!!!!

I am actually keeping my family boat. Just looking for something for those really sunny days when me and the boys and sons get out on our own. I have a musckrat right now and she complains because I am always looking for the skinniest water which scares the crap out of her. So I am selling that for something different. She won't let me have three boats. I figure the wife will come once and a while but after one ride my shoulder will be sore also.

looks to me that you have the same delemma as everyone else out there that can't afford 3 boats , buy the one that you can use the most, they're a lot more fun in the water than in the back yard !! and yes there will be days when you wish you had one of those, kinda like watchin a porn!!!!!!!!
